Angel could feel the electricity of the city as they came upon. It'd been years since he'd been there, and back then it wasn't has big or has filled with people. This is where they needed to be - two vampires with souls. Whatever was going on inside New York City, they needed to stop because it was their duty. Help the helpless, and fight the good fight.
He saw Fred turn toward him out of the corner of his eye, and waited for whatever she wanted to ask. When the question didn't come, he inwardly sighed. Things had been too different between them since that night. He knew he'd been selfish and he should've let her go, but Fred meant the world to him and the thought of not having her by his side was going to kill him.
Angel allowed grief to rule his actions that night. As he listened to Fred's heart slow, he didn't think twice before sinking his fangs into her neck and making her what he was. He had carried her back to the hotel that night and remembered the way all of them looked at him as he laid his Fred on his bed, and called Willow to help him. Angel could smell the fear and distrust in them but he couldn't allow it to bother him.
When Fred finally awoke, she hid herself away, which enraged Angel's inner demon. It prodded him to punish her while pointing out she was his Childe and should be obeying him, not hiding away in a room. Angel knew he couldn't hurt Fred though. He would never hurt her and would give her up before hurting her.
They eventually came together again and things were different. The bond between them had intensified and it frightened him at times. The demon was constantly telling him to push things with Fred. And there were times when he felt he needed to push things with her.
"I think that would be best," he said, glancing over at her with a small smile. He took her hand into his and softly kissed her fingers. "Are you hungry? We can stop before we get into the city and have something to drink."
Angel sighed at that as he remembered a time when getting something to eat meant taking her out for tacos or Chinese. He wondered if anything would ever be the same again.
When Angel lifted her hand to his mouth to kiss her fingers, Fred returned his smile. She always loved when he did things like that with her. It made her feel special and loved, and it made her feel like everything would be all right between them in the end. She wanted it to be, even though it was taking some time to adjust.
To learn to live with the demon inside her.
When he mentioned getting something to eat...drink, she nodded, realizing that she was actually feeling a bit hungry. It wasn't the same hunger that would have driven her to find something from the fridge to nibble on or that made her crave tacos. It was a deep down hunger, one that made it feel like nothing would ever satiate the demon.
"I think that would be a good idea," she said, not knowing what they were going to find when they got into the city. She didn't want to end up letting Angel down because they ended up in the middle of something when they got there and she wasn't strong enough.
Looking out the car window again, she kept a look out for a place where they could probably safely stop and find something. The demon was whipsering, saying that it didn't matter where they stopped - there were humans everywhere they could feed on - but she ignored it, knowing that she would never and could never do that. She had been sharing in the pig's blood that Angel got from the butcher in L.A., and while the demon despised it, it got rid of her hunger.
"Maybe an all-night grocery store?" she suggested. "We could get some raw meat or something since I doubt there's a butcher open this time of night."
Angel nodded. "I'm sure there's a place," he said. They didn't go to all-night groceries stores a lot. The last time they'd been at one was when Fred was still a human. She couldn't sleep one night so they walked to the local one and Angel had gotten her some ice cream. They wouldn't be buying ice cream this time. Angel knew they would never buy simple things like that again because he had ruined it by being selfish.
The car traveled over a hill of one of the smaller suburbs. There was a grocery store and its lights were still on. "I think this will be our safest bet," he said, pulling the car into the parking lot. He killed the engine and waited for Fred to follow him out of the car. Taking her hand, he walked into the store with her.
There wasn't a lot of people in there and Angel led Fred down one of the aisles, his hand tightening around hers. The steady sound of heartbeats could be heard and Angel didn't want the demon to tempt Fred into doing something she didn't want to do. When they got to the meat counter, Angel picked out a couple of steaks and some pork.
"The contact Gwen told me to call, will only see us with an appointment so maybe we can get these and then find a room? I think I saw a motel in the distance." He adjusted the meat in his hands. "Do you want anything else, Fred?"
When they walked into the grocery store, Fred was glad that Angel was there, holding her hand. She could feel that tug, telling her to forget the meat and go for the fresh blood. Even though the idea sickened her more than she could ever put into words, the temptation was still there. Angel's presence was actually comforting - she wondered if it was because she loved him or because he was her Sire and in a way the demon inside her was bound to obey even him.
When they reached the meat counter, Fred could smell the blood from the raw meat, and felt the hunger spike a bit. As Angel picked up some packages, letting go of her hand so he could, she fisted her hand tightly, telling herself that she could keep control. She would not let the demon manipulate her; she would not let it win. She was still Fred, and even though she was different now, she still had a soul. She was still good. She had to remind herself of that.
"Finding a room sounds like a good idea," she told him, thinking that if they needed an appointment, it would be best to find somewhere to rest. She shook her head, though, when he asked if she wanted anything else.
Together, they walked to the front of the store to pay for the meat, and as they did, Fred looked around, feeling like they were being stared at by the other people in there. It was silly, she knew, especially since there weren't that many people, and at this time of night, they probably didn't care about anything other than getting what they needed and getting home, but she couldn't help it. She supposed part of it was left over by what had happened at the hotel, and the way Cordy, Doyle and Gunn had all started treating her.
As the cashier bagged the meat after they paid for it, Fred found herself clinging to Angel as they walked out of the store, taking comfort from his presence again. The motel definitely sounded like a good idea now.
Angel could tell Fred was waging a battle against her demon. He could smell her fear and he held her hand tighter as they walked back to the front with their meat. He didn’t release her hand when he pulled out some money to pay for everything, and when they walked out, Angel slipped his arm around him and held her tightly as they walked to his car.
Once they were inside, he started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. “I’m sorry,” he said, knowing she would know what he was apologizing for. Angel would always be sorry for what he’d done, especially when he knew Fred was afraid. “It’ll be okay. I promise, Fred.”
The motel came into view and Angel pulled up to the office. He softly kissed Fred and moved out of the car to go inside. He got a room, and came back out to park the car in front of it. Once they were there, he got out and helped Fred out before taking her and the meat inside the room.
“I’ll call Gwen’s friend in a little bit,” Angel said as he took off his duster and sat the bag on the small desk. Moving forward, he gathered Fred into his arms and held her tightly. “I’m always going to be here for you. You know that, right? No matter what happens, I’ll be here.”
Angel groaned as Fred's arousal and borrowed blood filled the room. His cock was painfully hard and pressing against the zipper of his pants. His inner demon was prodding him, telling him to take her over and fuck her. Angel understood that even with souls, they still needed to feel the roughness only vampires could, but he didn't want to frighten Fred. He had been gentle with her ever since he'd turned her and he was afraid she'd hide herself away again if he overstepped his boundaries.
Removing his hand, Angel licked his fingers off and gathered her into his arms. "I love you," he whispered, knowing she knew that but wanting to say it anyway. He would never tire of telling Fred how he felt about her. "Why don't you get some rest? We have a lot of things to do tomorrow." Like find a butcher, meet Gwen's friend, and see what was going on there that had Gwen so worried.
Standing from the bed, Angel stripped his clothes off and got back into the bed. It wasn't like the bed he had in LA but it would have to do. He reached over and softly touched Fred's face. "You okay? You aren't hungry are you?" he asked as he stroked her cheek.
Once she came down from her orgasm, Fred snuggled against Angel, able to sense his love even as he said it. It was a bit strange, that emotions could almost be like a scent or an touch, but it was something she was getting used to. She could also feel his erection pressed against her as he held her, but before she could say anything, he suggested that they get some rest.
As he stood up and stripped his clothes off, Fred did the same, shimmying the rest of the way out of her jeans before pulling her shirt off as well. She looked over at Angel as he returned to the bed, thinking how beautiful he was. Sometimes, she had wondered how someone like him had come to love someone like her, but now that he was her Sire, she found that she never doubted why anymore.
Especially when she saw what she did to him.
Leaning in his touch, she looked into his eyes. "I'm okay," she assured him. "I...I don't think I'm hungry. I'm..."
She reached over, running her hand over his chest. She then ran her fingers up over his shoulder and down to his hand, taking it and bringing it to her mouth. She nipped his palm gently, just enough to draw a little blood so that she could taste him. After licking the drops from his hand, she pressed it to her breast as she leaned forward to kiss him, her other hand trailing down to his cock.
"I want to be with you," she told him, stroking him, at first a bit timidly but then a bit more firmly. "Please."
Angel had every intention of going to sleep, since driving all that way had worn him down. But, apparently, Fred had other ideas and he perked his eyebrow at her efforts. He knew he could easily say no and she would stop, but having her touch him like that, made him growl in pleasure. He wanted to be inside of her tightness, and be with her in everyway possible.
Nodding, he squeezed her breast, knowing the pain of it would be pleasurable to her now. Leaning forward, Angel sucked her nipple into his mouth until it was hard. He then moved over to her other one and repeated the process. He could feel his cock start to throb and he knew he needed to be inside of her.
Angel brought himself up to his knees and pushed her legs apart. In one swift move, he pushed into her, gasping at her tightness. He started to move in her at a slow pace, wanting to take her over and pound into her like his inner demon wanted. Angel sped his thrusts up, knowing he couldn't hurt her but he didn't want to frighten her.
"Is...is this okay?" he grunted out.
For a moment, Fred was almost afraid that Angel would say no. She knew they had been driving for a long time, and it had been a long night, probably the longest since they had headed out from Los Angeles. She needed this, though - deep down, she hungered for him just as much as the demon inside her hungered for blood.
So when he growled and started to squeeze her breast hard, she moaned in pleasure. He wasn't being as gentle with her as he had in the past, but it didn't matter. She wanted him. As he teased her nipples, she arched against him, feeling the need and hunger inside her growing. The demon inside was stirring, adding to her arousal. She wondered if he could sense it the way she could smell his arousal, telling her how she effected him.
She found herself on her back moments later, Angel pushing himself into her, filling her up. Groaning, she raised her hips up, meeting his thrusts until he started moving faster, causing her to gasp and grab the duvet.
"Yes," she told him, wrapping her legs around and pulling him closer. "Yes...more...please...need you, Angel...don't stop..."
Angel growled, his demon stirring as he continued to thrust into Fred. He could sense her own demon - the one he'd created, and started to pound into her. He would've never done this to her when she was human but he knew she could handle it now. Grabbing her arms, he pinned them above her head and looked down at her. "Mine," he growled.
With one hand, he held her hands in place before moving the other one down her side. When he came upon her leg, he brushed over her thigh and down to her ass. He dug his fingers into her flesh and pushed into her even harder. Angel knew he wasn't going to last much longer so he leaned down and took one of her nipples into his mouth.
When he felt his balls start to tighten, he moaned and shifted into his vamp face. He started to shudder and without warning, he felt himself twitch and spill himself into his Childe. With a loud moan, he bent down and sunk his teeth into her neck.
"After sundown," Angel told Fred as he pulled her against him. "Why don't you get some more sleep? It'll probably be a long night."
Hours later, Angel and Fred slipped out of the motel room. Angel had paid for another night, knowing they would have to find a more permanent place to stay soon. Their first stop was at a butcher, who stayed open late. They bought a couple containers of blood and drank it in the car. After they were finished with their dinner, Angel drove the car to where they needed to meet Gwen's friend.
The meeting place was in a warehouse district along the Hudson River. When Angel got out of the car, he could sense all the vampires in the area. It'd been years since he had been in the city, and he knew some of the vampires there were ruthless and fought harder than the vamps they encountered in Los Angeles.
"Fred," he said, looking over at her. "Be careful." He knew she would be able to sense them too, and would know what to do.
They started toward the designated warehouse when Angel noticed a group of vampires ahead of them. They were surrounding something and out of instinct, he rushed forward to help. It seemed the vamps were attacking another vampire that was dressed better than any vampire Angel had ever seen.
"Why don't you lay off him?" Angel asked as he pulled one of the vampires away.
"This doesn't concern you," the vampire growled. "This is between us and Trevor."
Angel looked down at the vampire on the ground. He was rolled up in a ball, whimpering. "Doesn't look like a fair fight," he said before punching the vampire nearest him.
"Hey! No one hits Louie and gets away with it," one of the vampires growled before sniffling the air. "Do ya fellas smell what I smell?"
"Yeah. He has himself a soul," one of the other vampires growled. "He's not even a real vampire."
Angel took a step back. "Fred, get out of here," he said as the group of vampires started to attack him.
Fred hadn't realized how rundown she had still been feeling until she had gotten the extra sleep and then drunk her container of blood from the butcher. Both things helped immensely, so she wasn't quite as worried that she would be a liability to Angel during their meeting. Still, she made certain that her stake gun was loaded and working properly.
She had got the idea several months before and had started tinkering, figuring it would be a better help that the decapitating trebuchet she had thought about making from a toaster and suitcase. It was more portable and a lot easier to reload. Gunn had whittled the first stakes for her, though they were smaller than normal. She had also practiced shooting for a few weeks to get her aim for hearts down.
Not that any of that had helped against the demon cops.
Shaking her head, she pushed that aside, and as they got out of the car when they reached the warehouse, she tucked the gun in the waistband of her pants under her jacket. She nodded when Angel told her to be careful, knowing that he wasn't saying it because he didn't trust her, but because neither of them were completely sure what they might be getting into.
As they approached the warehouse, she started to realize that something was wrong just as Angel broke into a run. She followed him, sensing the vampires - no humans, just vampires - and saw the attack. Stopping, she reached back and pulled the gun out as Angel tried to break things up, ending up in the fight. She ran closer, shaking her head when he told her to run. She couldn't leave Angel; she couldn't leave her Sire.
Cocking the gun, she shot the nearest vampire, causing him to explode into dust and pulling the attention of two of the others while the other two stayed on Angel. "Hey...look, a little girl with a gun," one said snidely.
"She's a vamp...and got a soul too," another hissed. Fred shot again, having to use two bullets this time. By the time she had, the first vampire was on her, trying to get the gun away.
"Give it up, little girl. We're gonna kill your Sire, then have some fun. You're not gonna stop us, so you might as well enjoy it."
"Funny," Fred said, shifting into her vamp face. "I thought I was since I've already dusted two of you."
Growling, she pulled, throwing the vampire off balance. He tried to turn around and grab her, pulling her to the ground. She kicked out, catching him in the gonads, knowing that it hurt as much for a vampire as it did for a human. As he doubled over, she pressed the gun to his chest and shot, dust flying into the air.
Quickly, she pushed herself up from the ground and, worried for Angel, looked over toward him. "Angel!"
Angel hated fighting New York City vampires. They fought dirtier than Los Angeles vampires and smelled of the sewer. He grunted and growled when he noticed two of them had gone after Fred. No one touched his Childe, and knowing two vampires were now turning on her, made Angel vamp out.
It didn't take him long to take care of the two vamps that had attacked him. He turned toward Fred just as she yelled his name. "I'm fine," he said before turning toward the vampire the others were attacking. He grabbed him by the shirt and hauled him off the ground. "And you're next!"
"Hey, whoa!" the vampire said, struggling in get away from Angel. "If you don't let go of me, my father will have you dusted!"
"I don't even know who your father is," Angel said, shaking the vampire a little.
"Let me spell it out for you - I'm Trevor Williams." Angel blinked and stared at the vampire. "Harry Williams' son." Angel blinked again. "He wrote about of plays. Won a bunch of Tonys. I'm one of the good guys! Soulless, yes, but I'm good! I'm what you call an information vamp. Need to find something? I'm your man...vamp!"
Angel reluctantly let the vamp...Trevor go. "What did you do to piss them off?" he asked, motioning toward the dust.
"They asked me to find this demon for them. I looked up what they wanted and there was no way I was going to help them raise a I'telck demon. Do you know how much bad mojo those demons can bring. They were the ones that started the Chicago fire years ago. Kind of like New York City too much to let it burn down," Trevor said as he straightened out his suit. He smiled and nodded at Fred before looking at Angel again. "What a minute! You're him, aren't you?"
"Huh?" Angel asked.
"You're Angel...the vampire with a soul. I knew it was you!" Trevor said as he bounced a little and started to dig through his pockets. "I should've known by the big forehead."
"My forehead isn't big!" Angel said as he rubbed it and looked at Fred. "Is my forehead big?"
"Here it is!" Trevor suddenly exclaimed as he pulled a pen out of his pocket. He then pulled out a piece of paper and thrust it at Angel. "Sign an autograph for me? Dude, I can't believe you're Angel! I'm a huge fan! Even made a website dedicated to you!"
Angel just blankly stared at him. "Erm..."
Fred joined Angel, staring at the other vampire as he explained who he was. An Information Vamp? She'd never heard of anything like that before. In fact, she had never heard a vampire without a soul talking the way this one did before. It was almost as though...he were still human.
Before she could ask how in the world he was the way he was when he didn't have a soul, Trevor had suddenly appeared to recognize Angel. She found herself looking over at him in disbelief, shaking her head when he asked if his forehead was big. She never thought so. She always thought he was just right.
"Your forehead's--," she started to say but was interrupted by Trevor asking Angel for an autograph. "Wait...you have a website? For Angel? How do you...?"
"I told you, I'm an Information Vamp! Started hearing about him, checked online to see if others had and found a bunch of people on a bulletin board. When the board went down, I made us a new place, complete with information on him and..." He looked at her. "Hold on. You're Fred, aren't you? The girl he saved? His new love? But..."
He looked her up on down, and Fred suddenly thought she knew what it was like when a scientist examined a specimen before dissecting it.
"When were you turned into a vampire?! We didn't hear anything about this on the website?" Trevor shook his head. "Oh my God, the shippers are going to flip about this! And Karia's going to die when she finds out her story's almost like real life now."
"Wait--wha...?" Fred asked. "Shippers? Stories? People are writing about us?"
"Oh, yeah! Honey, people love the two of you together!"
Fred looked over at Angel, suddenly wondering what surreal Neverland they had stumbled into instead of New York City. "That's good. I think."
